Menthol Week Six Summary

Menthol Project

Today marks the end of the six week menthol project. My skin still feels soft and smooth and has a supple glow that’s very noticeable. These past six weeks have been full of memorable menthol and peppermint shaves. These two ingredients feel great on your skin and have a lasting effect of coolness that’s noted in the post shave end feel. Menthol especially has a love hate relationship with a number of shavers. Some folks don’t like the cooling effect on the skin that menthol or peppermint has. Some shavers love that feeling but only during those warm summer months. Then there are the shavers such as myself that love that feeling all the time. I think the cooling effect from the menthol or peppermint helps sooth any razor burn, cuts or nicks you get from shaving. It’s a fantastic feeling on your skin and that’s why I chose this as a six week project.

The shaving soaps and creams I had the luxury of using for this six week project were the ‘Ice Pac’ from Wolf Pac Shaving that contains the natural ingredients of Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Glycerin, Menthol with Peppermint, Eucalyptus and Frankincense essential oils. The Wolf mentholproject_32000441160_oPac shaving soap creates a thick and creamy lather that feels luxurious on your skin. The longer the lather sits in the container or bowl its made in the stronger the cooling sensation is on your skin. I love this attribute of the Wolf Pac shaving soap and the name ‘Ice Pac’ seems rather fitting after using this soap for a period of time. On a side note, the plastic container the soap comes in feels very substantial. The label that sits on top of the lid is water proof so the ink doesn’t smear if it gets wet. This may seem rather small to mention but in my opinion it’s very important. Great packaging says we love our products and we want you to love them as well.

The ‘Cooling’ shaving cream from Cremo Creme is not a hard shaving soap but a soft shaving cream that comes in a squeezable tube. Cremo Creme contains several ingredients such as Olive Leaf Extract, Calendula Oil, Aloe Leaf Juice, Tea Tree Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Peppermint 31357058344_78aeed5dee_oOil, Menthol and Allantoin. Cremo Creme is also Paraben and cruelty free with no animal testing. Cremo Creme is concentrated meaning a little goes a long way. A dime size portion is plenty to get the job done. If the cream dries into the intended area for shaving before you get to it, add a couple of drops of water to the area and it reappears and ready for shaving. The Cremo Creme is not meant for lathering but that doesn’t mean you can’t. I have lathered it in a shave bowl before and applied it to my skin with a brush and it still provides a great shave. The Cremo Creme thrives as a concentrated non lathering creme and lathering it in a bowl allows air into the mixture cutting back on some of the slickness. Using this product as a non lathering product is where you see the most benefit with slickness and smoothness before during and after your shave is completed.

The Dr. Bronners ‘Peppermint’ shave gel is not a soap or a cream but a thick gel that comes in a squeezable tube. Dr. Bronners is known for their 31357066484_46fbd4f97a_oproducts containing natural and organic ingredients that have many positive attributes for your skin. Some of these ingredients are  Organic White Grape Juice, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Palm Kernal Oil, Organic Olive Oil, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Peppermint Oil, Organic Spearmint Oil and Glycerin. The ‘Peppermint’ shave gel from Dr. Bronners is also a lather less shave gel that takes very little to get the job done. The gel creates a slick surface for a smooth shave and does not create a mess in your sink at the same time. I was and still am very impressed with the performance of the Dr. Bronners ‘Peppermint’ shave gel.

The FuzzyFace ‘Spearmint Menthol’ shave soap created an impressive lather right away. There is very little room left over 31357063184_ed29fd1c7a_oin the tin but this soap proves right away that small spaces are fine when building a thick shave ready lather. This soap starts to lather right away and creates a creamy and robust lather with a solid cushion for a comfortable shave in less than two minutes. The ‘Spearmint Menthol’ soap contains Tallow, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Glycerin and Spearmint Essential Oil for a shave that you will want to have every night. I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing some of his other shave soap and his product will not disappoint you. If you are looking for a functional shave soap that provides a lather full of slickness and cushion then the shave soaps from FuzzyFace are a good pick.

Soap Commander really does not need an introduction unless you have not had the chance to use try their products. Soap Commander is loved31836719973_6dec6a5a4f_o by many in the wet shaving circles. Their ‘Vision’ shave soap may not contain Menthol or Spearmint but it does contain Aqua, Amber and mint that gives it that cooling sensation on your skin every time. The ‘Vision’ shave soap from Soap Commander also contains Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Glycerin and Castor Oil. The ‘Vision’ shave soap is vegan meaning less nasties and better for your skin as well as the environment. I’m a huge fan of the Soap Commander products and plan on using them for a long time. If you haven’t tried Soap Commander and you are looking for a fantastic soap and shaving routine I suggest that you try their products. You’re going to love them.

Krampert’s Finest is not a shave soap that you will find through social media but that doesn’t mean that you won’t love their soap. The ‘Frostbite’ shave soap from Krampert’s Finest is a high quality soap that elevates your shaving routine from good to perfect. First let me tell you that the32608235626_9245c41393_o ‘Frostbite’ does contain a couple of ingredients that adds value to your shaving routine as well as your skin care regimen. The Coconut Oil and Glycerin used in making the ‘Frostbite’ shaving soap adds extra moisturizing capabilities that help keep your skin soft and supple. There is plenty of room in the same container with this soap to create a shave ready lather that’s thick and robust with a nice cushion that helps your razor glide across your skin with even fluid strokes. The lather also provides a lot of coolness for your skin giving the term ‘Frostbite’ a lot of heft and weight. The ‘Frostbite’ shaving soap from Krampert’s Finest just may be your next favorite soap to use every night.

Last but not least Queen Charlotte is a soap artisan that has sadly closed their doors. The market has become so saturated with new soap32269656260_4678d93450_o makers that it’s been very difficult to stay a float. That doesn’t change the fact that their ‘Vostok’ shaving soap is nothing shorter than fantastic. The ‘Vostok’ creates a nice creamy lather with a lot of chill for your skin. In fact the chill is very aggressive and may not be for everyone. I say the more chill the better! The ‘Vostok’ shaving soap also contains several ingredients that are good for your skin and your shaving routine. Glycerin, Tallow, Palm Oil, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil and  Aloe Vera Extract along with essential oil(s), Kaolin Clay, Vitamin E. and Menthol crystals have a lot of benefits for your skin that will make you want to use the ‘Vostok’ every time!

So there you have it. Seven soaps and creams that contain menthol or peppermint that feel fantastic and leave a nice cooling sensation on your skin. Each one of these soaps produced a thick and creamy lather with an abundance of cushion for a pleasurable shave. I would recommend any one of these seven shaving soaps or creams to anyone who wants to try or add a menthol product to their collection. This concludes the six week menthol project here on TheBaldNation. Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day!

Menthol Project Week Five Summary

Menthol Project

As week five of the six week menthol project ends and the whole project is starting to come to an end, I first want to report that my skin 32050055232_d264953968_ostill feels soft and smooth. No irritation, cuts or nicks to report. Each shave this past week has been great. The menthol or peppermint ingredient used in each soap has added a welcomed coolness at the end of each shave that lasts into the night. What makes me sad about the end of this menthol project is that I’m going to have to move on to a new project leaving these soaps behind. Oh believe me they are going right back into my shaving cabinet for later use and they will resurface in the future once again. Until then it’s onward and upward. So with this summary I want to once again talk about the soaps and creams I’ve had the 32050035632_578d1c3481_oluxury of reviewing all week as a whole.

I’ve actually reviewed all of these soaps and creams once before in past product reviews but never as a whole project. My goal is to continuously use these shaving products that contain menthol and peppermint and note any good or bad changes in the skin. I also wanted to compare quality and amount of lather along with what kind of cushion produced by each soap. Although I really had no doubt that these shaving products would have good attributes for my skin, you never know what effect long term use of certain products could have. I’m happy to report that the last five weeks32269657400_4617362028_o have been exceptional and you would be happy with long term use of any one of these shaving soaps or creams.

The Ice Pac shave soap from WolfPac  Shaving provided a robust and creamy lather with a nice cushion for a comfortable shave. The Ice Pac shave soap contains some natural ingredients such as Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Glycerin and Menthol. Dr.Bronner’s  Peppermint shave soap is more like a gel than a cream or soap. It comes in a squeezable tube with a flip top lid. A little goes a long way to coat your skin with a nice layer of shave soap that adds a lot of glide to your daily or nightly shave. Dr.Bronners also contains a lot of 31836719973_6dec6a5a4f_onatural ingredients such as Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Palm Kernel Oil, Organic Olive Oil, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Peppermint Oil and Organic Spearmint Oil.

Soap commander is a beloved soap in the wet shaving community. Soap commander comes in a round container that leaves you plenty of room for building a thick shave ready lather that’s perfect for achieving a perfect shave. Soap Commander contains Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Glycerin and Castor Oil. These natural ingredients provide a lot of quality and positive attributes31805912364_c987f20de8_o for your skin. The Cremo Creme Cooling shave cream is concentrated meaning a little bit goes a long way. It’s a latherless shave cream that you apply by hand. Apply a dime size amount of cream to your skin and start rubbing it in. The Cremo Crème does lather a little bit as you are rubbing into the skin but not like a lathering shave soap. If the cream dries up to fast just apply a couple of drops of water to the area intended for shaving and the soap comes back to life. It’s a fantastic soap that adds a lot of value to your shaving routine. The Cremo Crème contains some natural ingredients such as Tea Tree Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Peppermint Oil and Menthol.

The Spearmint Menthol shave soap from FuzzyFace Soaps is another product that I’ve been reviewing that has a 32050037922_2b5e9dc389_ofantastic scent as well as a fantastic post shave end feel. It lathers quick and produces a lot of lather. There’s enough room in the same tin as the soap for lathering. I noticed the longer the lather sits, the more chill there is on the skin during shaving, I love this feature of the FuzzyFace Soaps. Some of the natural ingredients used in making this soap consist of Tallow, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Spearmint, Essential Oils and Glycerin. Queen Charlottes Vostok has a great menthol scent and cooling post shave feel. Although not as strong and cooling as some of the others but still a great shave and definitely a soap I will continue to use. Vostok ha32160123466_bee5b05ff0_os several natural ingredients that just make this shaving soap fantastic, these ingredients are Glycerin, Tallow, Palm Oil, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Aloe Vera, Kaolin Clay, Vitamin E and Menthol. Krampert’s Finest is a softer shave soap that provides a very thick lather that feels very soft and cooling on your skin. I really like Krampert’s finest, their soap is very smooth and has a great post shave end feel the Coconut Oil and Glycerin make each shave that much better for your skin. At the end of week five I have no complaints only praises for all of the soaps I’ve been using for the Menthol Project. Love your product and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day.

Menthol Project Week Four Summary

Menthol Project

At the end of the fourth week out of the six week menthol project my skin still feels great. I’ve had a very nice and pleasant post shave end feel32648992785_39b9f52f97_o after shaving with each soap. This really is no different from the past three weeks, but given that we are at the end of week four and my skin still feels soft and supple all day long shows that these soaps offer consistent skin care qualities. You could argue this statement by saying that your skin already contains some moisture that keeps your skin healthy. This is true however, if you are using products that contain ingredients or chemicals that may dry out your skin, using them on a consistent basis only dries out your skin more. This is not the case with these soaps, they offer consistent benefits that keeps your skin feeling healthy and smooth.

The soaps that I’ve been consistently using for the menthol project are Wolf Pac Shaving, Cremo Creme, Soap Commander, Fuzzy32269657400_4617362028_o Face Soaps, Queen Charlotte’s, Krampert’s finest and Dr.Bronners these all contain some of the same natural ingredients such as Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Shea Butter and Glycerin. These natural ingredients have so many great skin care qualities with a lot of benefits that once you start using these products and see and feel the difference on your skin you won’t want to use anything else. So how does it all work? how does your skin receive the quality benefits that these natural ingredients have to offer? It all revolves around the lather. So what is lather? What is it for and what does it do? Lather is a substance produced from rotating your brush over the top of your shave soap. You can also produce lather from soft shave cream by rubbing it between your hands.

There are many ways to produce lather it just depends on what soap or cream you are using. All lather is not the same and there are many questions 32648990085_5f70c92a2c_oasked about the topic of lather. What soap produces the best lather and what consistency is the best for shaving are some of the question asked. Truth is once you learn how to build lather the rest is all opinion. What works well for one shaver doesn’t always work well for the next. Lather provides a cushion between your skin and your razor helping to prevent razor burn, cuts and nicks as well as any other skin irritation that may occur during your shaving routine and ritual. Last but not least, If the soap you are using contains natural ingredients that offer skin care benefits when applied topically, then the lather produced from this soap helps deliver those benefits to your skin.

The Fuzzy Face Soaps, Krampert’s Finest, Wolf Pac Shaving, Soap Commander and Queen Charlotte’s soap all made shaving 31805913884_edac76c255_obowl an option. There was plenty of room in the same container that the soap came in to build lather. The Cremo Creme and Dr.Bronners came in a tube. With these two creams you could either build a lather in a shaving bowl or just rub the cream against your skin creating lather. The Cremo Creme is more concentrated than the Dr.Bronners so rubbing it against your skin to build lather works the best. It takes less product and the lather has a fantastic slickness. If you lather it in a shave bowl you still get a great lather but with a lot of extra air. Either way you go you get and outstanding shave with Cremo 32160132326_175cf54407_oCreme. The Dr.Bronners works well with just rubbing it against your skin to create a long lasting lather. If you see it drying into the skin before you get to it just add a little water to bring it back to life. Lather is a must have when shaving, how much, and what kind of lather you want is all up to you. If you’re looking for shave soaps and creams that produce a great lather that gives your razor a lot of cushion and makes your shaving routine and ritual pleasurable than I suggest you try these soaps for your self. You may just find your next perfect shave! Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day!
