The Mod Cabin
Welcome to the end of the first week of The Mod Cabin 6 week shave project. I had a couple of choices to choose from for the first week and decided on the Honeysuckle scent. I had the chance to try the pre shave oil, shave soap, toner and aftershave face tonic and the aftershave balm. I started my nightly shave off with the pre shave oil that came in a 2 oz. dark tinted glass bottle with sprayer lid. The shave oil is handcrafted with all natural and organic ingredients such as Meadowfoam Seed Oil and Avocado Oil. These all natural oils helps sooth, moisturize and increase hydration of the skin. The shave oil has a thinner consistency that won’t clog the pores of your skin. I applied the shave oil first before the shave soap to help increase the glide of my razor reducing irritation caused by shaving.
The Honeysuckle shave soap comes in a 6 oz. hardened solid bar. I decided to cut a chunk of this soap off and soak it in the shave bowl that I use every night. I filled the bowl with just enough hot water to cover the top of the soap to loosen it up. I let it soak for about fifteen minutes and then drained the water into another bowl for later use. The soap was softer and easier to create a good lather for shaving. I only needed a couple of quick rotations with my shave brush to create a thick and creamy shave ready lather. The lather was nice and thick in the bowl but thinned out a bit after I applied it. The slickness this soap offers makes up for the short life span of thick lather once applied to the skin. The slickness of this soap creates a smooth and comfortable shave every time. I have said it once and I’ll say it again, if I have to choose between lather or slickness I’ll choose slickness every time. Slickness helps prevent irritation caused from shaving. The post shave feel offered by this soap is tremendous. The slickness seems to intensify as you wash the excess soap off of your skin. I love shaving with this soap, It’s a great shave from start to finish.
The Honeysuckle shave soap is made with 100% all natural ingredients. One of my favorite natural ingredients that is found in this every day multifunctional soap is Glycerin. Glycerin acts as a Humectant that attracts moisture to your skin and traps it increasing hydration. Olive Oil, Coconut Oil and Castor Bean Oil are the other natural ingredients found in this soap that offer a lot of benefits to your skin care regimen such as soothing dry, cracked skin increasing hydration and moisture keeping it soft and supple decreasing irritation caused by shaving. These natural ingredients can decrease inflammation caused by bug bites and stings while acting as a natural bug repellent. These are just a few examples of how these natural ingredients can benefit your skin.
I followed up with the Honeysuckle Toner and Aftershave Tonic. This aftershave tonic comes in 2 oz. brown tinted glass bottle with sprayer lid. This aftershave tonic is a little different. Instead of applying and rubbing it into the skin, hold the bottle 8-10 inches away from your head and face while spraying allowing it to air dry. For best results use it on freshly shaved skin. I finished shaving and rinsed the extra soap away and then sprayed the tonic onto my skin. The Witch Hazel and Aloe Vera juice is gentle on the skin helping to reduce inflammation while toning and tightening the skin. The Aloe Vera and Witch Hazel moisturizes the skin healing cuts and scratches soothing your skin every time.
I ended my nightly shaving routine with the Honeysuckle Aftershave Balm that comes in a 3 oz. screw top tin. This aftershave balm is also different as well. The balm is whipped making it very soft and easy to use. I took of the lid and applied a bit of pressure through my index finger on top of the balm gathering a small amount that I transferred into the palm of my hands. I rubbed my hands together and massaged the balm into my skin giving it a nice radiant glow. The Shea Butter and Rice Bran Oil kept my skin soft and supple. This has been a great week with the Honeysuckle shaving products from TheModCabin.Com my skin feels very soft and comfortable. There has not been any irritation before, during or even after shaving and it’s time to move on to the second week. Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day
Welcome to the first weekly summary of the HeadBlade shave project. Before I get started lets talk a little bit more about two subjects I love whole heartedly. One is HeadBlade and the second is Head shaving. HeadBlade is a company founded by Todd Greene back in 1997. Todd Greene is not only the founder but also a fellow Bald guy making HeadBlade a very strong and beloved company among the Bald masses. HeadBlade carries a lot of weight since the founder himself personally uses the same razors he produces. To me HeadBlade is more than just a series of great razors, creams and moisturizers along with clothing and other accessories to let your inner Bald guy out to play. HeadBlade promotes and celebrates Baldness, whether you are Bald by choice or mother nature has visited you earlier than what you expected you can definitely find comfort among the many testimonies of other Bald men and their great experiences with the HeadBlade products. In my opinion HeadBlade will always stand for Bald pride and power continuing to be the corner stone and essence of living the Bald lifestyle.
I first shaved my head in 1996 which was one year before HeadBlade was founded. I soon found and tried the HeadSlick right away and the rest is history so to speak. When HeadBlade introduced the ATX I decided it was time high time to give it a shot and I’m glad I did. A lot of time has passed since I’ve first tried the ATX and I was excited about starting a long project with the HeadBlade products. HeadBlade sent me a package containing the Classic and Sport razor along with the HeadSlick shaving cream, HeadLube Glossy and HeadLube Matte for moisturization. I also received a bottle of HeadShead Scrub and ClearHead Bump treatment. Last but not least HeadShade SPF40.
The first week I decided to use the HeadBlade Classic which is where it all began. The Classic was introduced in 2000 and revolutionized head shaving. Until then all we had to shave with was cartridge razors. Once the HeadBlade Classic claimed its spot as the #1 razor for head shaving a lot of Bald guys threw away their cartridge razors and flocked towards the Classic, and for good reasoning since head shaving with the Classic is smooth and comfortable every time. I wasn’t a big fan of the standard two blade cartridge razor the Classic came with so I switched out the blade with the HB3. The HB3’s fit all HeadBlade models and is a much smoother shave since it’s 3 blades instead of 2. More blades means less pressure needed for shaving. Less pressure means less chances of razor burn, cuts and nicks. I shaved with the Classic for seven consecutive shaves and each time was smoother and faster than the last shave. There was a slight learning curve with the classic but nothing that a little critiquing could not fix. The hardest angles for me to master with the classic was around the ears. After the third shave that was not a problem any more.
The HeadBlade Classic is designed to rest against the bottom of your fingers. A small hook is located on the top fitting snuggly around your middle finger. You have plenty of room for your fingers to rest comfortably on the top of the razor. On the front end at the bottom is where the razor cartridge is located with enough suspension allowing the razor head to flex during shaving. The back of the Classic is more narrow and has a flat spot on the bottom of the razor that rest on your head. Making full contact you push the Classic from front to back with long strokes with minimal pressure for a very smooth shave. One of the big differences other than looks and design between a cartridge razor and the Classic is length of stroke. With a cartridge razor you have to keep each stroke short and sweet compared to the Classic that allows long strokes cutting your head shaving time in half. I really enjoyed the week I spent shaving with the HeadBlade Classic razor, if you have not tried it yet my question for you is what are you waiting for? Come on and #Shaveyourhead!
Welcome to the first week of the six week Menthol Project. Menthol has had a love hate relationship with a lot of shavers for a long time. Some like the cooling sensation menthol leaves after their shave is over while others do not. I for one love the cooling sensation of menthol on my freshly shaved Head and face. I think it feels fantastic. I decided that since I love menthol so much I would do a six week shaving project of nothing but mentholated soaps and creams. Along with menthol I also added peppermint since it has the same cooling effect on the skin. Menthol and peppermint not only feel cooling on the skin but they also help lower your body’s temperature. This is why menthol shaving soap or cream is widely used on a more consistent basis during the summertime. The cooling effect on the skin and lowering the body’s temperature is a perfect combination during those hot summer days and nights.
The first week out of the six weeks I just really focused on shaving with each soap or cream. I had six shaving products consisting of ‘Ice Pac’ from Wolf Pac Shaving, ‘Cooling’ shaving cream from Cremo Company, ‘Peppermint’ from Fuzzy Face Soaps, ‘Vostok’ from Queen Charlotte soaps which has sadly closed, ‘Frostbite’ from Kramperts Finest and ‘Peppermint’ from Dr. Bronners to use. I also had a couple of oils and aftershave that contained menthol or peppermint to add to the project increasing and lengthening the cooling effect on my skin. Each soap is different but all provided a great cooling effect. I’ve also noticed that the longer the lather sits in your bowl, or in the same container it comes in the stronger the cooling sensation is on your skin while shaving. Each of the six soaps I used all produced a nice thick and creamy lather. There are many similarities between each soap but still each one is different.
Along with the soaps I’ve also added the ‘Frost bite’ aftershave splash from Kramperts finest, the ‘Beard and Face Wash’ from Cremo Company that contains ‘Tea tree Oil’ and ‘Peppermint’ along with the beard oil that also contains ‘Tea Tree Oil’ and ‘Peppermint’. The first week out of the six week menthol project has been an introduction to all six soaps. My skin has felt nice, smooth and supple all week. I had a great time comparing all six soaps. I’m really excited to see what the next week will bring. Love your products and you will love the results!
