The Mod Cabin
The third week of The Mod Cabin shave project I had the chance to try the “Amber Resin’ shave soap. I did not have the matching shave oil and face tonic, but I did have the ‘Glacier’ shave oil and ‘Miners Mint’ aftershave tonic to take their place. I have used the ‘Miners Mint’ products before and I really enjoyed using them. The ‘Miners Mint’ shave products have a very Masculine and faint aroma. This was my first time using the ‘Glacier’ shave oil and it performed well compared to the other oils I have used in the past couple weeks of this shave project. Even though these were new products for the week, I noticed that they contain the same natural ingredients as the ‘Honeysuckle’ products do. Olive, Coconut and Castor Bean Oil along with pure essential oils are used in both the ‘Amber Resin’ and ‘Honeysuckle’ shave soap. These natural ingredients promote soft and supple skin, healing dry and cracked skin keeping it hydrated and healthy. The one ingredient found in both the ‘Amber Resin’ and ‘Honeysuckle’ shave soap is Glycerin. Glycerin is a natural by-product when soap is made . Glycerin is also an humectant that attracts moisture to your skin and traps it there increasing moisturization protecting you from the natural elements of your environment.
The ‘Glacier’ shave oil also contains the natural ingredients of Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Avocado Oil, Jojoba and also an essential oil blend. These are the same ingredients found in the ‘Honeysuckle’ oil. These ingredients also promote healthy skin as well as help the skin fight and heal various skin conditions and diseases such as eczema, psoriasis, pimples and blackheads. These natural ingredients help protect the skin from sunburn and sooth irritation caused by too much sun, bug bites and stings. The ‘Miners Mint’ Face Tonic Toner and Aftershave spray also contains Aloe Vera Juice, alcohol free Witch Hazel and an essential oil blend. These are the same ingredients found in the ‘Honeysuckle’ aftershave tonic, the only difference is the aroma. These ingredients tone and tighten the skin while soothing irritated areas caused by shaving. I did have the matching ‘Glacier’ shave balm to compliment the shave oil. The ‘Glacier’ shave balm is whipped making it very soft right away. Just run your finger over the top of this balm with minor pressure to capture a small amount that goes a long way when massaging it into your skin.
Organic and Fair Trade Shea Butter, Rice Bran Oil and essential oil blend found in the ‘Glacier’ whipped shave balm are the same found in the other balms that I’ve recently tried they really go the distance and feel great on the skin. Both shave soaps, shave oils, face tonics and after shave balms all contain the same great natural ingredients that help keep your skin healthy and smooth. At the end of week three my skin still feels supple and soft. The glycerin found in the shave soap adds a lot of slickness to each shave. The post shave slickness is tremendous and well worth it. I’m looking forward to week four! Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day.
The third week of the HeadBlade shave project I decided to use the ATX which is the third razor introduced in 2012 designed specifically for head shaving. The ATX was in development for over three years with four official mandates to achieve consisting of using new multi-blade technology. To eliminate any new learning curve there might be for a new user of the ATX. To be effective and versatile for the head, face, body and legs. The ATX completed these mandates introducing the ATX as an all terrain razor that elevates your shave to the next level.
I can honestly say that the first time I used the ATX it was very easy to use with minimal critiquing required. On the front end lies two sets of wheels on each side of the razor. This is much different in comparison to the Sport were the razor is located on the front. These wheels help the razor glide across your Dome in long smooth strokes. On the bottom of the back end is where the razor is located. On the Sport the wheels are located on the back end and smaller compared to the ATX. The ATX comes with a standard 4 blade cartridge razor and takes the HB4 replacement blades. The ATX is not as streamlined as the Sport is. The larger set of wheels on the front and the 4 blade cartridge razor on the back stationed to a larger axle makes the ATX razor from HeadBlade a solid and stable shave every time. Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day.
With the third week coming to and end, before I go any further I want to say that the skin on my dome and face feel fantastic! The Dr.Bronners, Soap Commander, Fuzzy Face Soaps, Queen Charlotte, Wolf Pac Shaving and Krampert’s Finest shaving soap do have a lot in common when it comes to natural ingredients. Not only do they share a couple of common ingredients such as Menthol and Peppermint, but also Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Avocado Oil, Shea Butter and Glycerin. All of these natural ingredients if used on a daily basis, have a lot of qualities for your skin care regimen and shaving routine. I’ve said this many of times and I’ll say it again, skin care should be just as important as a good shave. Shaving causes a fair amount of trauma to your skin no matter how good your products are. It’s never to late to start taking care of your skin before its to late.
Some of the qualities these natural ingredients offer your skin are Antibacterial and Antifungal properties, a great skin moisturizer, Rich in protein keeping your skin healthy and smooth, tissue repair, helps to heal dry and cracked skin, is a natural exfoliant, can help with skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis, can help the skin fight blackheads and pimples. These natural ingredients can serve as an insect repellent, A natural sunscreen and relieve sunburn, moisturizes the scalp fighting dandruff and encourages the production of collagen in your skin fighting the signs of aging. Yep!! these natural ingredients do all of these things plus so much more. One of my favorite natural ingredients is Glycerin. Soaps are basically made out of fats and lye. Fat already contains glycerin so when the fat and lye interact you get soap. Big soap manufacturers will remove the Glycerin and replace it with a chemical that acts like Glycerin that may cause skin irritation. A lot of artisan soap makers leave the Glycerin in giving their soap an extra moisturizing effect. Glycerin is also a Humectant attracting the moisture in the air to your skin and retaining it for extra moisturizing properties. A glycerin soap also produces a creamier lather and provides an excellent post shave end feel.
Soap Commander, Wolf Pac Shaving, Dr.Bronners, Queen Charlotte Fuzzy Face Soaps and Krampert’s Finest all produced a robust lather that filled the bristles of my shave brush with a creamy lather that spread evenly across my dome and face. The lather felt soft, smooth and luxurious on my skin. Each soap also provided a lather with a lot of cushion that enabled my razor to glide across my skin with nice fluid strokes preventing a lot of razor burn, cuts and nicks. Week three out of the six week menthol project proved to be a great week for shaving. I cant wait to see what week four is like. Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day!
During week three of the six week shave project with the Colonel Conk shave products I decided to focus on the ‘High Desert Breeze’ Eucalyptus and Tea Tree soap puck from the Colonel Conk Natural shave line. The Tea Tree and Eucalyptus ingredients have many benefits for your skin such as helping to give sun burn relief, helps treat itchy scalp, helps heal acne, helps control oily skin, cuts and scrapes, helps heal insect bites, Chicken Pox and warts. The ‘High Desert Breeze’ soap puck not only has several natural ingredients that add value to your shaving routine and skin care regimen, but it also provides an abundance of lather with each shave.
I decided to put my puck of ‘High Desert Breeze’ shave soap into my Colonel Conk black porcelain Apothecary style shave bowl and leave it there for the whole week to see how long it would last. I started my first shave off for the week by blooming the shave puck to increase the softness of the soap. The softness of the soap helps create a more creamy and robust lather that feels comfortable on your skin while providing an increased slickness and a great post shave feel. For the next seven days I used the same puck of Colonel Conk shave soap. Every day I re-filled my bowl of thick and rich lather for another nightly shave. Every night after my shave was over the left over lather in my shave bowl dried back into the shave puck. After the week was over I decided that leaving the same soap puck in your shave bowl for re-use on a daily basis adds value to your shave routine.
First and foremost you are re-using the same left over lather from the day or night before. There is no more waisted lather. The lather left over from the last shave dries back into the soap puck. The soap puck itself is hard and solid so the consistency of the soap itself goes unchanged from leaving the leftover lather to dry back into the shave puck for the night. The next day just add water the same as the night before and you once again have a full bowl of Colonel Conk lather. There is some soap that dries to the side of the bowl and you have some build up as the week goes on. One way to fix that is to take your shave brush and run it along the inside of the bowl across the dried up soap a couple of times to loosen it up. You can add the dried up soap into your lather for re-use. After leaving the same soap puck in the same shave bowl for every day use for the week I’ve come to the conclusion that it does add value to your shave routine. The consistency or quality of the soap and lather produced by the soap does not lessen or weaken.
Each day the lather was thick and rich with a robust texture that filled my shave bowl from top to bottom with a lather that bloomed my shave brush like a flower with every application of lather to my Dome and face. At the end of week three my skin felt smooth and soft with no razor burn, cuts or nicks. I’m looking forward to week four and the benefits the shaving products from Colonel Conk adds to my shaving routine and skin care regimen. Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day.
