The Mod Cabin
This was the fourth week of the six week shave project with The Mod Cabin and nothing has changed. My skin still feels soft and smooth after each shave. The Glycerin that’s one of the ingredients found in all of The Mod Cabins shave soap offers a lot of slickness during each shave and a tremendous post shave feel that makes it well worth trying for your self. The Mod Cabin hand crafts all of their products in small batches to ensure quality and consistency. They use all natural ingredients that are also organic and do not contain parabens, phthalates or SLS. What you get is an all natural product that’s ensured to contain ingredients that have a lot of benefits for your skin.
The past weekly summaries focused on the all natural and organic ingredients found in these products so today I want to talk about continuity and reliability. I think this is a question people have when it comes to using multiple products from the same brand. If you are purchasing products in your local retail store from a bigger name brand you might not ask this question. Big name brands make products in large quantities so each individual product performs in the same manner. The problem is, since they are mass producing products they may add a lot of chemicals instead of natural ingredients to keep the cost of manufacturing down to make bigger profits. Take Glycerin for example, It’s a natural by-product made from the soap making process. A name brand may remove the Glycerin and replace it with a chemical that may act the same but could possibly cause irritation after usage. This is just one example and does not apply to all name brands. Some name brands are starting to use more natural ingredients since consumers are becoming more aware of what they are putting on their skin. I am not saying you should boycott all name brand products, just be aware of what you are buying and what’s in the products you use every day.
Smaller artisan brands such as The Mod Cabin use all natural and organic ingredients. They hand craft and produce a higher quality product in small batches ensuring a higher quality that’s good for your skin. They use the same ingredients such as Olive oil, Coconut Oil, Castor Bean Oil and pure essential oils in making their shave soap, also keeping the Glycerin that’s produced during the soap making process providing you with a great shave no matter what soap you are using for the night. Whether it’s the ‘Honeysuckle’, ‘Miners Mint’ or ‘Amber Resin’ The Mod Cabin ensures quality and consistency every time. I will honestly tell you that all three soaps I used these last six weeks produced the same lather with the same texture and creaminess providing a great shave. The Glycerin found in the soap added a lot of slickness and cushion to each shave. The post shave end feel was tremendous and well worth the effort in reviewing all three soaps. There was no irritation and my skin felt soft, smooth and supple after every week.
During week four I also decided to leave the soap I was using for the week and left over lather in my shave bowl overnight. The lather dried back into the bar of soap left in my bowl conserving product. The next night I bloomed the soap for 10-15 minutes creating a soft and creamy lather that had a lot of slickness and a fantastic post shave end feel. I completed this process every night with the same outcome proving the continuity and quality of The Mod Cabin shaving products. Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day!

I ended the fourth and final week of the HeadBlade shave project with the MOTO which is the newest razor introduced in 2016. The MOTO takes all aspects of the ATX and upgrades to the next level. The ATX was easy to use right out of the box HeadBlade made that a necessary mandate that helped eliminate any learning curve when switching from a regular cartridge razor to a HeadBlade razor. The MOTO is even easier to use with little time needed critiquing the correct angle for a smooth shave. I contribute this to one of the biggest changes made with the MOTO.
The ATX and Sport razors both have wheels to help the razor glide across the surface of your skin. The Sport is wide in the front and starts to narrow towards the back. The wheels that are located on the back are small in comparison to the wheels on the ATX. The wheels on the ATX are located on the front end of the razor and are much larger. The MOTO keeps the same cartridge razor placement as the ATX but decided to get rid of the wheels replacing them with a rollerball that’s on the front of the razor in the same location as the wheels once resided. The rollerball is multi directional compared to the wheels that were linear. The multi directional ball gives the MOTO freedom of direction making the hard to shave areas easier to get to. The hardest area for me to shave is behind my ears. The angle needed to accomplish this is hard to get without getting cuts and nicks. The MOTO as well as the ATX makes this angle easy to accomplish.
The second hardest area for me to shave is the back of my head. I shave by feel or by looking in a mirror. The hardest part about shaving the back of your head is the real estate you have to cover. There is a lot to shave, the strokes are pretty much all linear but it’s more wide open space. The razor cartridge located on the back of the MOTO rotates to the right and left giving it more capabilities for contouring around all of the bumps and dips on the back of your head. I absolutely love the MOTO and how it performs during shaving. HeadBlade has once again taken your shave to the next level.
This marks the end of the HeadBlade shave project. These last four weeks have been great and a valuable learning experience. All four razors were fantastic and I know that each razor is loved by many alike. HeadBlade has been and always will be at the front of the line when it comes to head shaving and #Livingthebaldlifestyle. So come on and just #Shaveyourhead. Love your product and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day!
At the end of the fourth week out of the six week menthol project my skin still feels great. I’ve had a very nice and pleasant post shave end feel after shaving with each soap. This really is no different from the past three weeks, but given that we are at the end of week four and my skin still feels soft and supple all day long shows that these soaps offer consistent skin care qualities. You could argue this statement by saying that your skin already contains some moisture that keeps your skin healthy. This is true however, if you are using products that contain ingredients or chemicals that may dry out your skin, using them on a consistent basis only dries out your skin more. This is not the case with these soaps, they offer consistent benefits that keeps your skin feeling healthy and smooth.
The soaps that I’ve been consistently using for the menthol project are Wolf Pac Shaving, Cremo Creme, Soap Commander, Fuzzy Face Soaps, Queen Charlotte’s, Krampert’s finest and Dr.Bronners these all contain some of the same natural ingredients such as Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Shea Butter and Glycerin. These natural ingredients have so many great skin care qualities with a lot of benefits that once you start using these products and see and feel the difference on your skin you won’t want to use anything else. So how does it all work? how does your skin receive the quality benefits that these natural ingredients have to offer? It all revolves around the lather. So what is lather? What is it for and what does it do? Lather is a substance produced from rotating your brush over the top of your shave soap. You can also produce lather from soft shave cream by rubbing it between your hands.
There are many ways to produce lather it just depends on what soap or cream you are using. All lather is not the same and there are many questions asked about the topic of lather. What soap produces the best lather and what consistency is the best for shaving are some of the question asked. Truth is once you learn how to build lather the rest is all opinion. What works well for one shaver doesn’t always work well for the next. Lather provides a cushion between your skin and your razor helping to prevent razor burn, cuts and nicks as well as any other skin irritation that may occur during your shaving routine and ritual. Last but not least, If the soap you are using contains natural ingredients that offer skin care benefits when applied topically, then the lather produced from this soap helps deliver those benefits to your skin.
The Fuzzy Face Soaps, Krampert’s Finest, Wolf Pac Shaving, Soap Commander and Queen Charlotte’s soap all made shaving bowl an option. There was plenty of room in the same container that the soap came in to build lather. The Cremo Creme and Dr.Bronners came in a tube. With these two creams you could either build a lather in a shaving bowl or just rub the cream against your skin creating lather. The Cremo Creme is more concentrated than the Dr.Bronners so rubbing it against your skin to build lather works the best. It takes less product and the lather has a fantastic slickness. If you lather it in a shave bowl you still get a great lather but with a lot of extra air. Either way you go you get and outstanding shave with Cremo Creme. The Dr.Bronners works well with just rubbing it against your skin to create a long lasting lather. If you see it drying into the skin before you get to it just add a little water to bring it back to life. Lather is a must have when shaving, how much, and what kind of lather you want is all up to you. If you’re looking for shave soaps and creams that produce a great lather that gives your razor a lot of cushion and makes your shaving routine and ritual pleasurable than I suggest you try these soaps for your self. You may just find your next perfect shave! Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day!
At the end of week four of the six week shave project with the shaving products from Colonel Conk. My skin still feels soft and supple. The skin on my Dome and face has had a nice shine these last four weeks that I attribute to the Colonel Conk shaving products. Other than a puck of shaving soap that contains glycerin, all of the other shaving products that I’ve been using every day have all been from their natural line of shaving products. Their natural line is 99% natural leaving a small percentage to preservatives to keep your shaving cream fresh for a longer period of time and shelf life. In week three I focused on shaving all week with the ‘High Desert Breeze’ puck of shave soap from the Colonel Conk Natural line of shaving products.
I decided to follow the same path in week four but also add the Colonel Conk shave puck with glycerin to my weekly shave routine as well. I switched between the two shave pucks every day for seven days. One day with the natural shave puck and the next day with the shave puck that contains glycerin. With each shave I compared lather and slickness. What I found out at the end of the week comparing notes is that there is little difference between the two shaving pucks. In my opinion other than ingredients the only difference is that the shave puck that contains glycerin provides a lather that’s a little creamier with a little more slickness. The shave puck from Colonel Conks natural product line provides a smooth and comfortable shave as well with slick and creamy lather as well, the glycerin puck’s is just a step above the other.
I had a difficult time each night for seven days deciding which one I wanted to use for my nightly shave. I found it very hard to switch every night between the two because both pucks provided a lot of lather that was creamy and full of slickness. Whether you decide to choose the glycerin based shave soap puck or the natural shave soap puck from Colonel Conk one thing is for sure. It will be smooth shaves with soft and supple skin every time. If your decision is based on ingredients then the soap puck from Colonel Conk natural product line is going to win every time. The Colonel Conk Natural shaving product line contains no Parabens, Synthetic Fragrances, Artificial Colors or Dyes, Formaldehyde, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Petrolateum, Animal Testing, Cocamide Diethanolamine, Cruelty Free, Wheat Free, Nut Free and Gluten Free. A quality shaving product with quality skin care attributes that still provides a great lather that’s both smooth and creamy with just as much slickness as well.
Week four was a great week of shaving with the soap pucks from Colonel Conk. Try them both for yourself and see which one you like best. It’s perfectly fine if you can’t make that decision it just means you buy both so you can have the best of both worlds. Love your products and you will love the results. Have a #Baldtastic day!
