The Mod Cabin Week Five Summary

The Mod Cabin

Week five of the six week shave project with The Mod Cabin shaving products showed no difference in quality of skin care or quality of shaves. I contribute this to the continuity of the same organic and natural ingredients found in all of The Mod Cabin products. The ‘Honeysuckle’, ‘Amber Resin’ and ‘Miner’s Mint’ shave soap all contain the same natural and organic ingredients such as Olive, Coconut, Castor Bean Oil and pure essential oils. The ‘Glacier’, ‘Honeysuckle’ and ‘Miner’s Mint’ shave oil also all contain the same great natural and organic ingredients such as Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Avocado and Jojoba Oil with an essential oil blend. Finally the ‘Honeysuckle’, ‘Glacier’ and ‘Miner’s Mint’ after shave tonic contain Aloe Vera, Alcohol free Witch Hazel and also an essential blend of oils. All of these ingredients promote healthy skin through increased moisturization.

These last five weeks I’ve had the luxury of not only using The Mod Cabin shaving products but some other pre and post prep products as well that promotes healthy skin through hydration. These pre and post prep products contain some natural ingredients that help the skin heal and fight different skin diseases and conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, pimples and blackheads. I’m a big supporter of pre and post prep routine products such as an exfoliant to clear all the dead skin away helping to create a smoother shave and room for new skin to grow. I also like to apply pre-shave oil to my skin before the shaving cream or soap. Shave oil helps nourish and moisturize while creating a protective barrier between the razor and your skin. Shave oil also helps your razor glide across the surface of your skin through increased slickness. Shave oil is and will always be a definite staple of my shaving ritual. A good pre prep skin routine will add a lot of success to decreasing the risk of irritation caused by shaving.

The post shave routine is just as important as the pre shave routine is. Think of it this way. With the pre-shave routine you are preparing your skin to accomplish a smooth shave with less irritation, cuts and nicks. A post routine is the skin repair segment of your shaving routine. Running a razor across your skin causes trauma no matter how good your products are. A good pre and post shave routine helps prevent and heal irritation caused by that trauma. There are several choices to make when choosing your post routine products. Do you want to use after shave splash, balm or both, will the after shave products you choose be alcohol free? Will you decide to use moisturizer or just stick with using after shave? There is no wrong answer it’s just a matter of what you decide is the best option for you. I like to use a combination of both after shave splash and balm that may or may not contain alcohol.

When using alcohol based products it’s important to know how sensitive your skin is so you know how much you can use without causing your self a lot of misery. If I’m using products that
contain alcohol I use more moisturizer to decrease the risk of irritation. When deciding to start using pre and post prep shaving
products you also need to know that it will add time to your shaving routine but the benefits out weight the inconvenience. Keeping your skin soft, smooth and well hydrated will lead to less irritation making shaving more enjoyable. At the end of week five out of the 6 week shave project with The Mod Cabin my skin has never felt better. Next week will be week 6 and mark the end of this shave project. So sad it’s coming to an end. Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day!

Menthol Project Week Five Summary

Menthol Project

32269657400_4617362028_o

As week five of the six week menthol project ends and the whole project is starting to come to an end, I first want to report that my skin 32050055232_d264953968_ostill feels soft and smooth. No irritation, cuts or nicks to report. Each shave this past week has been great. The menthol or peppermint ingredient used in each soap has added a welcomed coolness at the end of each shave that lasts into the night. What makes me sad about the end of this menthol project is that I’m going to have to move on to a new project leaving these soaps behind. Oh believe me they are going right back into my shaving cabinet for later use and they will resurface in the future once again. Until then it’s onward and upward. So with this summary I want to once again talk about the soaps and creams I’ve had the 32050035632_578d1c3481_oluxury of reviewing all week as a whole.

I’ve actually reviewed all of these soaps and creams once before in past product reviews but never as a whole project. My goal is to continuously use these shaving products that contain menthol and peppermint and note any good or bad changes in the skin. I also wanted to compare quality and amount of lather along with what kind of cushion produced by each soap. Although I really had no doubt that these shaving products would have good attributes for my skin, you never know what effect long term use of certain products could have. I’m happy to report that the last five weeks32269657400_4617362028_o have been exceptional and you would be happy with long term use of any one of these shaving soaps or creams.

The Ice Pac shave soap from WolfPac  Shaving provided a robust and creamy lather with a nice cushion for a comfortable shave. The Ice Pac shave soap contains some natural ingredients such as Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Glycerin and Menthol. Dr.Bronner’s  Peppermint shave soap is more like a gel than a cream or soap. It comes in a squeezable tube with a flip top lid. A little goes a long way to coat your skin with a nice layer of shave soap that adds a lot of glide to your daily or nightly shave. Dr.Bronners also contains a lot of 31836719973_6dec6a5a4f_onatural ingredients such as Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Palm Kernel Oil, Organic Olive Oil, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Peppermint Oil and Organic Spearmint Oil.

Soap commander is a beloved soap in the wet shaving community. Soap commander comes in a round container that leaves you plenty of room for building a thick shave ready lather that’s perfect for achieving a perfect shave. Soap Commander contains Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Glycerin and Castor Oil. These natural ingredients provide a lot of quality and positive attributes31805912364_c987f20de8_o for your skin. The Cremo Creme Cooling shave cream is concentrated meaning a little bit goes a long way. It’s a latherless shave cream that you apply by hand. Apply a dime size amount of cream to your skin and start rubbing it in. The Cremo Crème does lather a little bit as you are rubbing into the skin but not like a lathering shave soap. If the cream dries up to fast just apply a couple of drops of water to the area intended for shaving and the soap comes back to life. It’s a fantastic soap that adds a lot of value to your shaving routine. The Cremo Crème contains some natural ingredients such as Tea Tree Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Peppermint Oil and Menthol.

The Spearmint Menthol shave soap from FuzzyFace Soaps is another product that I’ve been reviewing that has a 32050037922_2b5e9dc389_ofantastic scent as well as a fantastic post shave end feel. It lathers quick and produces a lot of lather. There’s enough room in the same tin as the soap for lathering. I noticed the longer the lather sits, the more chill there is on the skin during shaving, I love this feature of the FuzzyFace Soaps. Some of the natural ingredients used in making this soap consist of Tallow, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Spearmint, Essential Oils and Glycerin. Queen Charlottes Vostok has a great menthol scent and cooling post shave feel. Although not as strong and cooling as some of the others but still a great shave and definitely a soap I will continue to use. Vostok ha32160123466_bee5b05ff0_os several natural ingredients that just make this shaving soap fantastic, these ingredients are Glycerin, Tallow, Palm Oil, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Aloe Vera, Kaolin Clay, Vitamin E and Menthol. Krampert’s Finest is a softer shave soap that provides a very thick lather that feels very soft and cooling on your skin. I really like Krampert’s finest, their soap is very smooth and has a great post shave end feel the Coconut Oil and Glycerin make each shave that much better for your skin. At the end of week five I have no complaints only praises for all of the soaps I’ve been using for the Menthol Project. Love your product and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day.

Colonel Conk Week Five Summary

Colonel Conk

colonelconkproject_28046547975_o

Welcome to week five of the six week shave project with the Colonel Conk shave products. Once again at the end of week five I can honestly say that I have had no problems with irritation, razor burn, cuts or nicks while using the Colonel Conk products. This six week project is coming to its end and I wanted to talk a little bit about what I think is an important aspect of a shaving routine that alsocolonelconkproject_27969010971_o adds value to your skin care regimen. Before I get to that I want to also talk about shaving routines in general. I think a successful shaving routine consist of products that not only improves the quality of shave you are getting, but also the integrity of your skin as well.

I have had the privilege of reviewing the Colonel Conk natural shave oil and after shave balm these last six weeks and I really feel that they have added value to each shave when used. The natural shaving oil and after shave balm won’t clog the pores of your skin or leave behind a greasy residue. Thesecolonelconkproject_27969026601_o natural products soak into your skin quickly and one of the best parts is they don’t contain a lot of ingredients that are harmful or will irritate your skin as they are being used. The natural shaving oil and after shave balm do not contain Parabens, Synthetic Fragrances, Artificial Colors or Dyes, Formaldehyde, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Petrolateum, Animal Testing, Cocamide Diethanolamine, Cruelty Free, Wheat Free, Nut Free and Gluten Free. The natural line of shaving products contains less than 1% preservatives that help keep your product fresh for a longer time so you can enjoy the benefits colonelconkproject_27484200630_oof these natural products every time you use them in your shaving routine.

There’s no doubt about it, the Colonel Conk shaving products provide a comfortable shave with a very creamy and robust lather that has just as much slickness and smoothness. Through out the last five weeks I’ve practiced a technique that has improved each shave’s comfort and smoothness level. This technique has also increased the slickness level that only increases the quality of shave and post shave feel each and every time. The technique I’m talking about if warming your lather. I’m notcolonelconkproject_27484193300_o talking about warm lather that starts of warm and is cold by the end of your shave. I’m referring to keeping your lather warm from the start of your shave to the end of your shave. It’s very easy to do and you may already have the materials in your shave den or kitchen to do it.

Warm lather on your skin has a very luxurious and soothing feel if its done right. The consistency is important. If the consistency is to thin in the beginning then your lather will be to runny. The lather needs to be on the thicker side the constant warmth will thin the consistency a little bit so the thicker the lather the better in the beginning. I prepared my lather 26871159384_7defe06715_oin a smaller size porcelain apothecary shave bowl and submerged it halfway in a round plastic container that’s wider in diameter than my apothecary shave bowl. The handle on the side of the shave bowl allows it to rest comfortably in one spot and prevents it from moving around. The hot water surrounds the porcelain shave bowl and heats up the lather. Rework  your lather several times during your shave to keep the warmth consistent through out the lather. The warm lather will feel fantastic on your skin every time and provide a more comfortable shave. My six week shave project with the Colonel Conk shaving products is starting to come to an end. I can’t wait to see what week six is like. Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day.

At the end of week five out of the six week shave project with Captain’s Choice shaving products the skin on my Dome and face still captainschoice_26928369776_ohas a nice shine. My skin looks and feels more supple and soft. Increased suppleness of the skin is important especially if it’s the area that you are shaving every night. An increased suppleness means your skin has a nice hydration level. Skin that is well hydrated is more pliable and resistant to razor burn, cuts and nicks.captainschoice_26424430844_o One ingredient found in the shaving soap from Captain’s Choice shaving soap is Vegetable Glycerin which has many healthy benefits for your skin.

Vegetable Glycerin is a natural humectant which means it’s part of the natural moisturizing factor in our skin. Glycerin helps seal in the moisture on the top26888992165_e22c43f681_o layer of your skin. Glycerin used in conjunction with ingredients and natural oils that help protect the deep water content found in the skin adds more value to your every day skin care routine. If your shaving products contain glycerin and these certain oils then it adds more value to your shaving routine as well. Glycerin can also be used as a cleanser, a toner and skin moisturizer. It alsocaptainschoice_26756156020_o helps retain water in the skin. Glycerin also helps oily skin problems like pimples, acne and blackhead, Glycerin also helps give the skin a soft and supple feel.

This is just one more reason why Captain’s Choice shaving products add value to your shaving routine and skin care regimen. Love your products and you will love the results.
