The Mod Cabin Week Six Summary

The Mod Cabin

This is week six and marks the end of the six week shave project with The Mod Cabin shaving products. There is not a lot to report as far as how my skin feels. There has been no change, it still feels soft and smooth with a vibrant glow. The products are still performing in the same great manner and each bowl of lather produced from the three different soaps consisting of ‘Honeysuckle’, ‘Amber Resin’ and ‘Miner’s Mint’ have all been creamy and smooth with the same great consistency and continuity. From the initial application of the soap to the post shave end feel the slickness provided by these soaps has been tremendous and well worth trying for yourself.

I’ve also had the luxury of trying The Mod Cabin pre-shave oil, Face Tonic and aftershave balm in the ‘Honeysuckle’, ‘Glacier’ and ‘Miner’s Mint’ scents. I’ve had nothing but good fortune and great feeling skin with the use of these products. The positive attributes these products bring to my shaving routine and skin care regimen has been tremendous and I plan on using them in the future. It has been an honor and privilege these past six weeks and I can’t wait to see what The Mod Cabin does next.

I would like to give The Mod Cabin a big #Baldnation thank you and I wish them the best of luck! Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day!

Menthol Week Six Summary

Menthol Project

Today marks the end of the six week menthol project. My skin still feels soft and smooth and has a supple glow that’s very noticeable. These past six weeks have been full of memorable menthol and peppermint shaves. These two ingredients feel great on your skin and have a lasting effect of coolness that’s noted in the post shave end feel. Menthol especially has a love hate relationship with a number of shavers. Some folks don’t like the cooling effect on the skin that menthol or peppermint has. Some shavers love that feeling but only during those warm summer months. Then there are the shavers such as myself that love that feeling all the time. I think the cooling effect from the menthol or peppermint helps sooth any razor burn, cuts or nicks you get from shaving. It’s a fantastic feeling on your skin and that’s why I chose this as a six week project.

The shaving soaps and creams I had the luxury of using for this six week project were the ‘Ice Pac’ from Wolf Pac Shaving that contains the natural ingredients of Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Glycerin, Menthol with Peppermint, Eucalyptus and Frankincense essential oils. The Wolf mentholproject_32000441160_oPac shaving soap creates a thick and creamy lather that feels luxurious on your skin. The longer the lather sits in the container or bowl its made in the stronger the cooling sensation is on your skin. I love this attribute of the Wolf Pac shaving soap and the name ‘Ice Pac’ seems rather fitting after using this soap for a period of time. On a side note, the plastic container the soap comes in feels very substantial. The label that sits on top of the lid is water proof so the ink doesn’t smear if it gets wet. This may seem rather small to mention but in my opinion it’s very important. Great packaging says we love our products and we want you to love them as well.

The ‘Cooling’ shaving cream from Cremo Creme is not a hard shaving soap but a soft shaving cream that comes in a squeezable tube. Cremo Creme contains several ingredients such as Olive Leaf Extract, Calendula Oil, Aloe Leaf Juice, Tea Tree Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Peppermint 31357058344_78aeed5dee_oOil, Menthol and Allantoin. Cremo Creme is also Paraben and cruelty free with no animal testing. Cremo Creme is concentrated meaning a little goes a long way. A dime size portion is plenty to get the job done. If the cream dries into the intended area for shaving before you get to it, add a couple of drops of water to the area and it reappears and ready for shaving. The Cremo Creme is not meant for lathering but that doesn’t mean you can’t. I have lathered it in a shave bowl before and applied it to my skin with a brush and it still provides a great shave. The Cremo Creme thrives as a concentrated non lathering creme and lathering it in a bowl allows air into the mixture cutting back on some of the slickness. Using this product as a non lathering product is where you see the most benefit with slickness and smoothness before during and after your shave is completed.

The Dr. Bronners ‘Peppermint’ shave gel is not a soap or a cream but a thick gel that comes in a squeezable tube. Dr. Bronners is known for their 31357066484_46fbd4f97a_oproducts containing natural and organic ingredients that have many positive attributes for your skin. Some of these ingredients are  Organic White Grape Juice, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Palm Kernal Oil, Organic Olive Oil, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Peppermint Oil, Organic Spearmint Oil and Glycerin. The ‘Peppermint’ shave gel from Dr. Bronners is also a lather less shave gel that takes very little to get the job done. The gel creates a slick surface for a smooth shave and does not create a mess in your sink at the same time. I was and still am very impressed with the performance of the Dr. Bronners ‘Peppermint’ shave gel.

The FuzzyFace ‘Spearmint Menthol’ shave soap created an impressive lather right away. There is very little room left over 31357063184_ed29fd1c7a_oin the tin but this soap proves right away that small spaces are fine when building a thick shave ready lather. This soap starts to lather right away and creates a creamy and robust lather with a solid cushion for a comfortable shave in less than two minutes. The ‘Spearmint Menthol’ soap contains Tallow, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Glycerin and Spearmint Essential Oil for a shave that you will want to have every night. I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing some of his other shave soap and his product will not disappoint you. If you are looking for a functional shave soap that provides a lather full of slickness and cushion then the shave soaps from FuzzyFace are a good pick.

Soap Commander really does not need an introduction unless you have not had the chance to use try their products. Soap Commander is loved31836719973_6dec6a5a4f_o by many in the wet shaving circles. Their ‘Vision’ shave soap may not contain Menthol or Spearmint but it does contain Aqua, Amber and mint that gives it that cooling sensation on your skin every time. The ‘Vision’ shave soap from Soap Commander also contains Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Glycerin and Castor Oil. The ‘Vision’ shave soap is vegan meaning less nasties and better for your skin as well as the environment. I’m a huge fan of the Soap Commander products and plan on using them for a long time. If you haven’t tried Soap Commander and you are looking for a fantastic soap and shaving routine I suggest that you try their products. You’re going to love them.

Krampert’s Finest is not a shave soap that you will find through social media but that doesn’t mean that you won’t love their soap. The ‘Frostbite’ shave soap from Krampert’s Finest is a high quality soap that elevates your shaving routine from good to perfect. First let me tell you that the32608235626_9245c41393_o ‘Frostbite’ does contain a couple of ingredients that adds value to your shaving routine as well as your skin care regimen. The Coconut Oil and Glycerin used in making the ‘Frostbite’ shaving soap adds extra moisturizing capabilities that help keep your skin soft and supple. There is plenty of room in the same container with this soap to create a shave ready lather that’s thick and robust with a nice cushion that helps your razor glide across your skin with even fluid strokes. The lather also provides a lot of coolness for your skin giving the term ‘Frostbite’ a lot of heft and weight. The ‘Frostbite’ shaving soap from Krampert’s Finest just may be your next favorite soap to use every night.

Last but not least Queen Charlotte is a soap artisan that has sadly closed their doors. The market has become so saturated with new soap32269656260_4678d93450_o makers that it’s been very difficult to stay a float. That doesn’t change the fact that their ‘Vostok’ shaving soap is nothing shorter than fantastic. The ‘Vostok’ creates a nice creamy lather with a lot of chill for your skin. In fact the chill is very aggressive and may not be for everyone. I say the more chill the better! The ‘Vostok’ shaving soap also contains several ingredients that are good for your skin and your shaving routine. Glycerin, Tallow, Palm Oil, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil and  Aloe Vera Extract along with essential oil(s), Kaolin Clay, Vitamin E. and Menthol crystals have a lot of benefits for your skin that will make you want to use the ‘Vostok’ every time!

So there you have it. Seven soaps and creams that contain menthol or peppermint that feel fantastic and leave a nice cooling sensation on your skin. Each one of these soaps produced a thick and creamy lather with an abundance of cushion for a pleasurable shave. I would recommend any one of these seven shaving soaps or creams to anyone who wants to try or add a menthol product to their collection. This concludes the six week menthol project here on TheBaldNation. Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day!

Colonel Conk Week Six Summary

Colonel Conk

This is the end of my six week shave project with the Colonel Conk shave products. It should be no surprise that at the end of week six my skin has a nice soft and supple feel. It should also be no surprise that the Colonel Conk products have provided a smooth shave with a greatcolonelconkproject_28046539775_o post shave feel every time. Thesecolonelconkproject_27589267176_o last six weeks of shaving with the Colonel Conk products have proved to me that their shaving products bring nothing but value to your shaving routine. For the majority of the six week project I used the shaving products from Colonel Conk’s natural shaving line.

I had the use of two different shave creams both from the Colonel Conk natural shave line. The ‘High Desert Breeze’ Tea Tree & Eucalyptus and Thecolonelconkproject_27809190482_o ‘Santa Fe Cedar’ Robust Cedar & Rosemary scent from the Colonel Conk Natural shave line contains no Parabens, Synthetic Fragrances, Artificial Colors or Dyes Formaldehyde, Sodium Lcolonelconkproject_27484200630_oauryl Sulfate, Petrolateum, Animal Testing or (DEA). The natural shaving products from Colonel Conk are also Cruelty Free, Wheat Free, Nut Free and Gluten Free. The only thing that keeps these products from being all natural is the less than 1% of preservatives to keep your product fresh for a longer time. Both scents of the Colonel Conk shave cream provided thick creamy lather that was both robust and comfortable at the same time. Along with the natural shave cream I also colonelconkproject_27622833795_ohad the chance of shaving for seven days with the ‘High Desert Breeze’ Tea Tree and Eucalyptus soap puck from the natural line of shaving products. I also shaved with a glycerin based soap puck for a couple of weeks.

The lather between the natural line of shave products and the Glycerincolonelconkproject_27484191980_o based shave soap is very comparable in thickness and robustness. Both the natural line and glycerin based soap made every shave for the last six weeks great. I’ve enjoyed each shave for the last six weeks and plan on continuing to use the Colonel conk shave products in the future. Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day.

Captain’s Choice six week Summary

Captain’s Choice

This summary marks the end of the six week shave project with Captain’s Choice shaving products. These last six weeks have been full of great shaves every day. The glycerin used as one of the ingredients found in the shave soap help lock moisture in the top layer ccchoice_26160097143_oof skin adding extra hydration and suppleness to your skin. These last six weeks I’ve tested the Captain’s Choice shaving products in different ways.

I’ve tested the two samples of shave soap that came packaged in their own plastic tubs. The Lime and North scent shaving soap from Captain’s Choice both came in 5 oz. tub with enough room to build a shave ready lather. The plastic tubs that the two shave soap came packaged in is very convenient and time-saving. It takes more 26888975135_c3a8c222c4_otime to build a pre lather and then transfer it into another shave bowl and continue to work your mixture into a shave ready lather. Building your lather in its original container does have its cons though. Since you are building your lather upon the same soap in the same container your lather may be to thick. It’s hard to thin out the consistency of the soap if your constantly adding soap to the lather. One way to fix this is by loading your brush with lather and running it quickly under a steady stream of water beforeccchoice_26648096925_o applying it to your Dome and face. This method will thin out the consistency of your lather to your liking.

The other shave soaps came in quarter ounce sample sizes that are good for several shaves. You can’t build your lather in quarter size sample size containers there is not enough room. When it comes to quarter sample sizes you will want to press your shave soap into the bottom of your shave bowl and build your lather from there. I like pressing shave soap but it’s hard for me to judge how much toccchoice_26648094685_o press to get a good robust lather. A couple of things to keep in mind when pressing your shave soap. Number one is, when pressing your soap always smooth it out on the bottom of your bowl. if you have big chunks of soap on the bottom of your bowl they could clog up your safety razor when shaving. Number two is, make sure you press enough soap on the bottom of your bowl because once you start working up your lather it would be hardcaptainschoice_26996732556_o to add more if you need to.

I also had the Bay Rum and the Sandalwood aftershave splash in four fluid oz. bottles and several more samples in quarter fluid oz. bottles as well. The after shave no matter if it was in the four fluid oz. bottles or quarter oz. bottles performed in the same manner with toning the skin and fightingcaptainschoice_26227417412_o the early signs of aging. After shave splash also kills of any bacteria that may fester in small cuts and nicks caused from shaving. After shave splash can also help dry oily skin as well. I always use after shave splash and follow it up with after shave balm as well to add extra moisturization to my Dome and face. I had a four fluid oz. bottle captainschoice_26756156020_oof the Lime scented after shave balm from Captain’s Choice that soothed my skin after every shave. I also  had several after shave balms that came in quarter oz. containers that performed the same as the Lime scented after shave balm that came in the four fluid oz. bottle. The sample size containers of the Captain’s Choice after shave splash and balm are TSA approved andcaptainschoice_26928369776_o ready for travel. No matter if you try the four oz. bottle of after shave balm and splashes or the quarter size containers the result will always be the same. a smooth finish to a fantastic shave from the Captain’s Choice shaving products.

I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to thoroughly try the shaving products from Captain’s Choice. These last six weeks have been more than perfect and I look forward to shaving with these products once again. Love your products and you will love the results. Thank you and have a #Baldtastic day!
